plunkett poetry festival: exploring reflections

The Plunkett Maine Poetry Festival, held in April each year, was established in 2002 to honor the memory and accomplishments of Terry Plunkett, an English professor at the University of Maine at Augusta for nearly thirty years. In 2026, the Plunkett Poetry Festival’s keynote will be Claudia Rankine. In connection to the festival, we will have three workshops from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on April 25, 2026.

In Samaa Abdurraqib’s workshop, “Exploring Reflections,” participants will read and write poetic forms that reflect and respond to themselves. Using mirror and contrapuntal poems, we will consider the ways these forms shift meaning and depth. Our readings will include poems by Jamaal May, Rita Dove, and Tarfia Faizullah.

Registration is free, but spots are limited
