Signs of Spring - A Phenology Talk

Please join Maine Master Naturalists, Samaa Abdurraqib and Shana Stewart Deeds for a slideshow of the signs of spring! Some of these include: frog and bird calls, spring ephemerals and trees. All abilities welcome, no experience necessary! We recognize that not everyone is able to attend long hikes and want to bring some signs of spring to you at the Topsham Public Library.

Samaa (she/her) is an auntie, a writer, a bird nerd, and a lover of the outdoors. She is a certified Maine Master Naturalist, which allows her to lead outdoor teaching experiences for people who want to learn about the beings (plants, insects, animals) in this region. Samaa is also a published poet and is the Executive Director of Maine Humanities. Her newest book, Towards a Retreat, was published by Diode Editions in 2025.

Shana (she/her) is a daughter, mother, ecologist and frog nerd. She is also a certified Maine Master Naturalist and a Laboratory Instructor at Bowdoin College. Before moving to Maine, Shana lived in Vermont where she coordinated the study to designate the first national Partnership Wild and Scenic Rivers in the state (the Missisquoi and Trout Rivers) and earned her teaching certification.
